FAQ
A little about file types, formats, colours and fonts.
To get the best possible result when we manufacture items for you, it is important that you send the material in the right file formats. We typically need the following for a job:
→ Image files
→ Text
→ Logo
→ Font
Requirements for images and graphics
It's important to pay attention to the resolution of images to be printed. By using the correct PPI, you avoid your printed matter becoming grainy and blurry.
For printed matter, we recommend that images should be 300 PPI. PPI stands for Pixel Per Inch - and indicates how many dots/pixels the image consists of per inch. 300 PPI corresponds to 118 dots per centimetre. This means that if an image is to be reproduced in, for example, 10 x 15 cm, the resolution should preferably be 1180×1770 (10×118 and 15×118) pixels or more.
If the image is to be used for a large poster, a roll-up or similar that is viewed from a greater distance, we can settle for a resolution of between 60 and preferably 100 PPI. Banners and other large prints that need to be read from several metres away require even lower PPI.
Avoid creating text in image files as the text can easily become blurred at the edges or cloudy in colour.
If you send us the finished layout in an image format or PDF, it is important that the files are in CMYK colours (with the colour profile FOGRA39 if it is for printing on crinkled paper - smooth or silk). If you send us “loose” images that we need to work with further, we prefer to receive the image files in RGB colours. Please do not paste it into e.g. Word or other programmes before sending it.
Custom file types for logos
Vector graphics are clearly preferable for texts, line drawings and logos. The files can be scaled infinitely. It is important to work in CMYK colours and you should convert text to curves (“outline”) before sending us the file. Send the files either in AI (Adobe Illustrator), eps or PDF format.
Texts and colours
As a rule of thumb, text smaller than 6-8 points cannot be printed in a colour that consists of a mixture of the four CMYK colours, as the raster that reproduces the colour makes the letters indistinct. A pure colour must be chosen (e.g. pure black: C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100). This also applies to line drawings. If an area in the print is to be black, we generally recommend that this colour is defined as C=60 M=40 Y=40 K=100.
Tags in the PDF
When you generate your PDF, in most cases you should only choose to show crop marks and have 3 mm for bleed. The PDF should be generated with the Fogra39 profile if it is to be printed on good quality paper with a smooth and even surface (crop marks).
Filter types
JPG
The JPG format is a widely used image format. When you save in JPG format, the image is compressed. And every time you edit the file and save it again, it is further compressed. The smaller the file size, the worse the quality. Therefore, always save in maximum quality. Once the image is saved in low quality, the details cannot be recreated. Instead, save the image in either TIF or PSD (see below).
TIF
When saving images in TIF format, data can also be compressed, but not nearly as much as with JPG files. On the other hand, the compression is not destructive as with JPG, meaning that image data is restored when the file is opened.
PSD
PSD is Adobe Photoshop's image format. Among other things, it allows you to layer individual elements, which makes it possible for us to continue working with the material.
Fonts
If you want us to use a specific font to design your product, please let us know the name of the font - but it's best to attach a file with the font itself.
Templates
You also have the option to receive a template for you or your graphic designer to work from, but remember that the prices in our Create-Your-Own range include set-up and up to three proofs, so you don't have to deliver the material ready to print.
Producer responsibility for packaging
When we invoice you for an order, the packaging quantities are automatically registered. This also applies to transport packaging (cardboard, pallets, plastic etc.) that we place on the Danish market. The rules are not uncomplicated, but in general, you only need to register and pay for packaging with your branding (name or logo) when you receive goods from grønlunds. Generic packaging and all transport packaging is registered and invoiced to DPA (Danish Producer Responsibility). EHowever, a special rule applies when we deliver to what the Ministry of the Environment defines as a Microenterprise. In these cases, we also register and pay for the packaging that may have your branding. If you are a microbusiness, it is therefore important that you inform us of this when you place your order. If we do not receive this information, we will assume that you are not a micro-business and leave any responsibility to you.
FSC® certification
Many of our products offer FSC® certification. This means that the paper originates from responsible forestry and other controlled sources. The FSC label is a guarantee that nature and social issues are taken into account throughout the value chain - from the forest to the finished printed product.
