Sustainability reporting, objectives
- and a little about data security
When you trade with grønlunds, You are doing business with a company that takes responsibility for its environmental impact and for responsible and sustainable development. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through shorter transport distances, recyclable packaging and continuous monitoring of our CO2 emissions. We work with CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) in production in collaboration with sheltered workshops at home and abroad and with the world around us, supporting international organisations.
Transport
We reduce transport distances in our supply chain by manufacturing a large part of our products locally. A significant part of our range is printed at Danish, Nordic Swan Ecolabelled printing plants that use FSC-certified paper from sustainable European forests and run on 100% green energy from solar and wind. Over 85 % of our production takes place in Europe. When production requires long-distance transport, we choose environmentally friendly transport options such as trains over air and sea freight wherever possible, reducing our CO2 emissions as well as emissions of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other air pollutants.
Our goods are primarily distributed to our customers with GLS, who are working to achieve zero emissions by 2045 and in the meantime compensate for their carbon footprint through climate projects.
CO2 accounting
In 2024, we started systematically collecting data to map our carbon footprint now and in the future. We use the Danish Business Authority's climate calculator “Climate Compass” for this purpose. The figures below cover Scope 1 and 2 and are stated in tonnes CO2e:
Scope 1 (direct emissions)
2023: 5.16 tonnes
2024: 5.22 tonnes
Scope 2 (indirect emissions)
2023: 0.12 tonnes
2024: 0.12 tonnes
(calculated with emission factors for the year 2023 and including RFI for air transport). The full report - and our future reports - can be requested by contacting info@gronlunds.dk. The reports serve as a foundation for our future goals of reducing our carbon footprint, optimising energy consumption and minimising packaging consumption and waste. Considering that we had a significant increase in revenue in 2024, we consider the almost unchanged figures to be satisfactory. By the beginning of 2025, all internal transport will have switched to 100% green electric operation - and we therefore predict significantly decreasing figures for 2025.
Greenlunds and CO2
Due to the location of our office and warehouse in rented facilities, we have limited possibilities to influence the overall emissions of the building. However, we have implemented LED lighting and other energy-efficient solutions. Therefore, based on our annual CO2 inventories, we will offset our total Scope 1 and 2 emissions to make our operations as carbon neutral as possible. We do this in collaboration with Planet-A-mor, which plants trees in the rainforest in Peru (see below). Our trees have a total CO2 footprint of approximately 8.7 tonnes (2025). At the same time, we are committed to working towards reducing our emissions. The focus is therefore primarily on reducing emissions related to transport, where the majority of our carbon footprint is to be found.
Planet-A-Mum
In December 2024, we entered into a partnership with the organisation Planet-A-mor, which plants trees in the rainforest in Peru. A project that is about much more than reducing CO2. Planet-A-mor owns a large area of land in the Peruvian Amazon. In collaboration with local forest engineers, they design regenerative agroforestry systems based on permaculture. The philosophy is to create sustainable ecosystems while allowing thousands of farmers to participate in tree planting.
Native tree species or species that respect and benefit the biodiversity of each area are planted. The trees absorb CO2 as they grow, creating a natural benefit for the entire planet. And by involving the local population, the Ashaninka, the project also provides an opportunity to rebuild growth in the area. Planet-A-mor ensures that each farmer receives a wage that is around 25% higher than the average local wage for similar work. Click on the satellite image at the bottom of the page to see where our trees are.
Packaging, waste and recycling
We have been reducing our packaging consumption for several years, especially in the use of plastic. Since 2024, we have been a member of VANA, a collective scheme that is responsible for reporting and settling with DPA (Danish Producer Responsibility) regarding producer responsibility for packaging, to ensure proper registration and compliance. In addition to registering the amount of transport packaging on all orders, we have reviewed our entire product range and registered the amount of packaging used per product so that we can automatically report to the DPA and also so that we can inform our customers of the exact amount of packaging added to their orders in relation to their potential liability. Read more about producer responsibility under FAQ.
In this way, we contribute to a more circular economy by taking responsibility for ensuring that the packaging we put into circulation is handled and recycled in accordance with the Packaging Regulation and applicable environmental legislation. The work to minimise packaging consumption continues, and we will increasingly use materials made from recycled materials and materials that are suitable for reuse. In addition, in collaboration with our partners, we have developed plastic-free packaging for several products and where plastic is unavoidable to protect the product and minimise resource loss, the goal is to only use plastic that is suitable for recycling. From 2024, we intensified our waste sorting programme internally with division into 11 waste fractions.
Social responsibility
grønlunds employs four employees (1 woman and 3 men) with seniority between 10 and 35 years. We do not use child labour. Our major partners are continuously audited by an internationally recognised partner to ensure compliance with labour standards, health, safety, environment and business ethics. Collaborations that are based on long-term relationships with fair conditions also in terms of prices and payment. We take social responsibility by supporting organisations such as UNICEF and the Danish Cancer Society and by supporting initiatives such as installing defibrillators. A large part of our package jobs are carried out at sheltered workshops, including Værkstederne ved Rude Skov in Ebberød, which offers sheltered employment for citizens aged 18 - 65 who cannot work in the regular labour market.
GPSR
At grønlunds, we take product safety and responsibility seriously. We work hard to ensure that all products we design and deliver comply with the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) and other relevant EU legislation.
Over 85% of our products are manufactured in collaboration with suppliers based in the EU who are subject to applicable European product safety, environmental, chemical and occupational health and safety legislation.
As part of the co-operation, the supplier has signed the grønlunds Code of Conduct (CoC), which commits them to
- Comply with applicable legislation
- Ensure products are safe in normal and foreseeable use
- Work responsibly in relation to people, the environment and working conditions
- Provide relevant documentation when needed
Product safety and documentation
grønlunds ensures that products are developed and manufactured with a focus on safety and compliance with relevant requirements. We maintain traceability in the supply chain and can provide necessary documentation in response to requests from customers or authorities.
Product safety is an ongoing process and we continuously follow regulatory developments to ensure continued compliance with GPSR.
Data security
At grønlunds, data security has always been a priority. We protect your data from hacking and theft, while ensuring that the graphic work we have done for you remains available as an asset for later use through double backup routines in two geographical locations. Our data is stored on servers secured behind state-of-the-art firewalls and with access control through two-factor authentication.
